Architecture begins with attention—to people, place, and the possibilities that emerge between them.

DJMDESIGN is a residential design practice exploring the relationship between how we live and the environments we create. Through thoughtful collaboration and a process of discovery, each project develops its own architectural expression.

Selected Experience

Residential projects undertaken during my tenure with KAA Design Group.

  • Perched on a mountainside overlooking Flathead Lake, this single-family residence is a quiet discovery, designed to honor the land’s natural beauty through a site-first approach

  • prestigious Hollywood Bird Streets neighborhood, emphasizes California’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle.composed mostly of large planes of vertical glass, and horizontal layers organized around three coarse stone walls

  • The Creekside residence embodies Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophy of a home being of the hill, blending seamlessly into its surroundings

  • Two board-formed concrete walls separate the public from the private spaces and a portal in one of the walls frames downtown Los Angeles. Elements of the structure along the southern edge of the property hover out and over the landscape and the city

  • Designed for sustainability, it features a fireproof roof, low-maintenance materials, and textured concrete walls that reflect the local landscape, corrugated Corten steel and local stone ensure the residence will patina gracefully over time

  • A serene midcentury modern style home nestled in a private wooded estate, surrounded by lush gardens and natural greenery. The pure volumes and structural rhythm blend harmoniously with nature, creating a peaceful sanctuary

The Construction Site

  • DJMDESIGN/ KAA DESIGN residence in the Santa Monica Mountains. Dan J Murphy's children join him for a site visit and hike through the property to study the home's relationship to the land.

  • DJMDESIGN LLC: A southern California home rooted into the mountain, made with rammed earth from the site. The roofline soars above providing shade and contrast.
